In the Sixth Grade Enrichment Art Class students are given a taste of classes they could choose as an elective in 7th and 8th grades. We do a ceramics project to let them see if that would be something that would interest them and also because it is a wonderful medium to expose our students to. My students are seen below working on a pinch pot creature. I will post again after their pieces have been glazed and glaze fired.
Though it was a cold and rainy night the art rooms at White Hill were full of warmth and creativity last Thursday evening. Many families braved stormy weather to join Ms. Emma and Ms. Ruzzier to create art together. Siblings, parents, friends and White Hill students came together for our second annual Family Art Night! We discussed using symbols in art and looked at the art of Joan Miro. Sixth graders were challenged to create abstract images that included symbols of importance to them incorporating organic shapes. They first drew with pencils and then added black sharpie over their lines and worked with watercolor pencils. We also discussed how to create overall interesting and successful compositions. See some of their wonderful results (some finished and some in progress) below. |
