We discussed using symbols in art and looked at the art of Joan Miro. Sixth graders were challenged to create abstract images that included symbols of importance to them incorporating organic shapes. They first drew with pencils and then added black sharpie over their lines and worked with watercolor pencils. We also discussed how to create overall interesting and successful compositions.
