We had a wonderful crowd at the White Hill Open House last night but if you couldn't make it here are some photos of the amazing art that was on display.
Ms. Emma and Ms. Ruzzier hope you will join us this Thursday evening, 6:30-8pm, for Open House. Student art from the 6th grade Enrichment and 6-8th grade art elective classes will be on display in rooms 501 and 502. Stop by to see the amazing art created by White Hill students.
In Studio Art 7th & 8th graders have been working on a couple of projects about our community and one is a painting or drawing that's a personal map inspired by maps you might find at the beginning of a story book. Students had a choice of medium and could make the map in any style they chose. Students have also just completed a sculpture. You will see here the varied subject matter and use of recycled materials. This was a lengthy process, with students first trying out several sculpture techniques as they worked on smaller 3-D pieces, then conceiving an idea and making a plan about how to create their larger sculpture using a variety of materials available to them. RVSD Student Art Exhibit at Fairfax Library! We hope you will stop by the Fairfax Library during the month of February to see an art exhibit featuring our talented Ross Valley students K-8th grade.
Sixth grade students in Ms. Ruzzier's Enrichment Art classes created collages with the theme of community.
Students in Digital Art and Photography (7th and 8th grade elective) discussed and interpreted the concept of community by creating a portrait/silhouette of themselves and a community that is meaningful to them. They used their own photographs as well as photos from the web to create these wonderful collages.
It was wonderful to see parents and their children making art (mural painting, fiber arts, bookmaking and drawing) together at our third annual Family Art Night last Thursday. A fun and art filled evening was had by all!
Sixth grade students in my 0 Period class are just finishing the beautiful mixed media pieces you will see below. We started by making contour drawings of a still life and then finished the drawings by using four different mediums: watercolor, pastel, collage and either ebony pencil or colored pencils. The goals were to start with a strong observational drawing and then to try to make the transition from one medium to another as seamless as possible.
Seventh and Eighth grade students in the Digital Art & Photo class had their first photo assignment where they learned some of the basics of good photo composition. They each took photos using the following compositional tools: Leading Lines, Rule of Thirds, Close Up and Framing. Here are some of the wonderful results... One of the next projects students worked on was a Digital Mandala. We discussed the meaning and history of the Mandala (the word means circle in Sanskrit and is a symbol of life) and radial symmetry. Students then looked through the photos they had taken for Photo Composition and selected one to use for their Mandala. See the beautiful results below...
